Gutter to Katrina: Fuck You
Tuesday, September 6, 2005

mobileoilrigunderbridge.jpgWe're not inured to tragedy. Nor, like certain of our friends at Design Observer—who may or may not have realized that, um, a ton of people just died—will we attempt to aestheticize it. We got our fill of urban-flood chic in AI. And no, we're not going to shout out to Spielberg again here—not because we did it once and we still feel the pain (the way, say, Barbara Bush feels the pain of all those underpriviledged and underwashed who washed up in her fair Houston), but because, Jessica, this is no time to be talking about art, not even good art. It's time to talk impeachment, and, yes, aid. We care—we do!—but not as much as our frenemies at Archinect, whose concern (about architects) was evinced to a fare-thee-well in the letter that follows. We'll leave the earnestness to them.

We have set up an online resource to help architects and students resume work and school until New Orleans' infrastructure is stable enough for its citizens to return. This resource also contains updated disaster news and related discussions, targeted primarily toward the architecture and design industry.

Please come by and post important announcements and share any valuable information that may help those in need. Representatives from firms and schools are highly encouraged to offer assistance by adopting displaced architects and students by posting the information directly to the web site via the online forms.
