Cooper-Hewitt: Still More Pathetically Attired
Thursday, October 6, 2005
Seems some people, once they get a taste of publicly and anonymously dissing some institution for which they clearly harbor some irrational malice, can't get enough. Wonderwhatthat'slike. Here, then, a record fourth submission by our new favorite reader, the one, you know, who can'tstoploving on the Cooper-Hewitt.
I know, this target is just too easy:
The Dutch design team Viktor & Rolf organized a very successful exhibition for the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo entitled "Colors" in collaboration with the Kyoto Costume Institute. Lucky for us, "Colors" was supposed to come to Cooper-Hewitt this winter. It even made it into the Times season preview three weeks ago, so it must be true. (In fact, the museum has been desperate to do a costume exhibition since senselessly killing what would have been the first major solo show anywhere of Hussein Chalayan some years back.) But something happened along the way...Viktor & Rolf went AWOL. It seems V & R got so fed up with the braintrust on East 91st Street, they stormed out and took their exhibition concept with them, leaving the Cooper-Hewitt talent to cobble together a watered-down rip-off. And a cute new name. We can only hope that the museum will redeem itself with that eagerly anticipated cutlery extravaganza next spring.
