It has only been one day, but already the 'sphere is on fire, 'snipers scrambling for their reference books, to answer one question: Who you gonna believe, the Bitter Realist or your lying eyes? From "Sven", the next staggering installment in The Chronicles of Snag:
dear guttersniper,
while Nalbach + Nalbach's Bundespressekonferenzzentrum may offer an immediately gratifying source for mr. pasquarelli's porter house inspiration, i suspect if you cast a wider glance around, say, late 90s europe you'll find scores of edifices all riffing on / ripping off the same worn out motif--the trusty elongated staggered checker.
so while greg's got the nalbachs on the phone, he might as well have anni albers and ellsworth kelly cued up on lines 2 and 3. see attached images for all the bauhaus-y goodness that hid buried in coffee table art books for the last 70 years, like a zeitgeist motif bomb on a very slow fuse, until finally blowing staggered, elongated, illuminated rectangles all over every other facade in the western world.
seriously, this has gotten almost as bad as the whole folded, bendy plane thing that rem started. er, and by "started", i mean ripped off from paul virilio's oblique function. but that's another story.
