Robin Pogrebin in Biloxi: Over Her Head
Monday, October 17, 2005

biloxidecon.jpgIt has long been whispered that Robin Pogrebin, the New York Times' "architecture reporter", doesn't have a whiff of an idea what she's talking about. Now, the whispers can stop: we've got proof. This weekend there was a design charrette in Biloxi. Something about rebuilding after a storm, people displaced, chaos, development. You get the idea. Robin, clearly, did not. Charmed by Stefanos Polyzoides, around whom she frames her first-person, look-i'm-in-a-disaster-area reportage, RoPog manages to get through the story without once using the term "New Urbanism," pointing out that Andres Duany lui meme was there preparing the way for a thousand Seasides, mentioning the crucial issue of the disposition of a local Wal-Mart, or conveying the salient fact that casino operators and developers were barred from the event. For those wee tidbits, please turn to the high-quality journalism of one Chris Joyner, toiling for the good of all at the Jackson Clarion-Ledger.
