Remulons to Unveil Stealth Tower in Kentucky
Thursday, February 9, 2006

remskentuckyblues.jpgFollowing boldly in the footsteps of Daniel Libeskind, Rem (or, rather Josh Ramus) has designed a Sears-Tower-Meets-Russian-Constructivist fantasia for Louisville. Wow-factor: High. Silly-factor: Maximum. And that extends to the pre-announcement shenanigans:

The building's design has been a well-guarded secret. A public exhibit at 609 Main -- scheduled to open tomorrow and featuring scale models of the building -- has been guarded for the past week by an off-duty police officer. Black drapes have kept anyone from seeing inside.

But on Monday night, a small group of people -- friends and family of the development team -- got a sneak preview of the building during a cocktail reception with the architectural team.

We weep for you, Kentucky.

Transform is a word. I'm embarrassed to be an arhitect. Our profession is dead. What a big, SUCK building.

Hey, if Louisville city planners and developers are willing to embrace this monsterous piece of crap, then they deserve every last square foot. Let's just hope the 'kickstand' holds. Utterly ridiculous!

I didn't know 'The Onion' had a Louisville sister newspaper. And it's even funnier than the original!

It's not only hideous, when you look at it superimposed on the skyline, it completely throws the entire downtown off-balance. And it hulks over these amazing historic iron facade buildings on Main Street like one of those alien death machines from last year's War of the Worlds remake. Louisville was doing so well...until this...

One of the ugliest things (not buildings...things) I've ever seen in my life. I feel sorry for those of you in Louisville.

i LOVE it. you guys don't get it, and with this building, rem is proving that he DOES get it, after everyone claims he doesn't. he doesn't give a shit about what the world architecture body likes b/c they all suck. he gets it, he's creating a legacy that is defined as "monster of the reality no one will face with integrity" and he's loving every minute of it. b/c he knows, as do most intelligent ppl, that he is rationalized by the validity of the independent. he's not a socialist like 95% of architects, he's a capitalist. and there are more coming...
