City to Larry: Drop Dead
Wednesday, April 26, 2006

26rebuild.1901.jpg It has been so long—too long!—since the political rumblings at The Pit have made their way over to our increasingly potected ears and ever more coddled eyes. Today, the Times announces that yesterday, Larry Silverstein announced that he had accepted a new deal for Ground Zero.

The deal calls for Mr. Silverstein to surrender control of the $2 billion Freedom Tower, along with more than one third of the ground zero site, to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
While Daniel Libeskind SOM must be relieved at Larry's stepping off the superblock, it's the downtown business groups that are getting ever-so-creative with their, ahem, "inspired" similes.
"This is a shot in the arm for Lower Manhattan," said Eric Deutsch, president of the alliance.
Because nothing says political success like tying one off.
